The FADER magazine just released an exclusive cover story on the one and only Miss SZA.
SZA who now is a 5-time Grammy nominated singer and songwriter finally reflects on her huge nominations after going home empty-handed.
“I’m not as mad as I thought I would be, I didn’t have any expectations, actually. That’s why I wasn’t super upset.” She goes on to say, “Perhaps folks place too much importance on the entire situation in general.”
SZA also said a couple times throughout the interview that she wasn’t the biggest fan of her debut album and believes she could’ve done better, “I didn’t even fuck with my own album, so I was so confused and almost, like, angry that everyone fucked with it so much.”
She went on to reveal that Ctrl wasn’t a planned album, “I just made a gang of songs over the course of four years. Heard ‘em all together and I was like, ‘Huh, alright.”
Her comments about her album and ‘Love Galore’ almost caught me off guard because SZA had the biggest and most successful year that I’ve seen any new artist have since Justin Bieber became popular.
But this goes to show that no matter how successful you can be in whatever field you’re in, you’re still going to have self-doubt. At the end of the day, you always want to be the best you can be.
“You’re never as good as people say you are and never as bad as people say you are, either” — SZA
